Civil War Summer Camp

The Livingston County Historical Society & Museum and the Wadsworth Library hosted a week long summer camp presented by instructor and veteran re-enactor Joseph DeBell. Approximately 40 students in grades 2nd-6th learned about what it was like to be a Civil War soldier. Students were able to see, feel, and hear, what equipment, supplies, food, music and uniforms were like in the 1860’s. Students role played “falling in,” marching, basic drilling, as well as pretending to load and fire at the enemy! Participants toured a real Civil War General’s gravesite, a Civil War monument, and the Livingston County Museum. Families enjoyed a mock battle on the grounds of the Livingston County Museum.
