Thanks to the support of the Genesee Valley Council for the Arts, the Livingston County Historical Society was able to engage students in Geneseo and Dansville schools each in a five day participatory learning experience entitled “A Program in History” featuring domestic historian Missy Clark. “Goodwife” Clark takes the children back into pioneer days and teaches them the many roles children had in everyday life on the frontier. |
| Children experienced tasks such as: spinning, weaving, washing, hauling a two person barrow, grinding corn husks, cooking “Johnny cakes”, and much more. Throughout the program, songs and stories introduced background information and content for each day’s activities. On the last day of the program, students visited the Livingston County Museum and connected their learning of pioneer life with everyday objects in the museum. |
